Antibiotics

There is much dispute about the effectiveness of long term antibiotics. Lyme patients seem to be in the center of a war between the IDSA which says Lyme is easily treated with 3 weeks of antibiotics and other Lyme Organizations such as ILADS which say long term treatment with antibiotics is necessary. Read more about the controversy here.

Many blow diet off as not being important, but as the writer of this blog I have tried many of the treatments above and for me, diet was the most important thing for me. It’s the hardest also to change. But I just wanted to make a note from personal experience that it is essential in healing and food can be used as medicine.

Marshall Protocol

Patients on the Marshall Protocol take a medication called olmesartan (called Benicar in the US), which is able to bind and activate the VDR by pushing 25-D and bacterial proteins out of the receptor. Patients also lower levels of 25-D in the body by avoiding the kinds of vitamin D present in various foods.Read More at the following links.

Tens Machine

With Lyme Disease comes a lot of inflammation and pain. Many Lyme patients use a Tens machine to help alleviate some of that pain. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is the use of electric current produced by a device to stimulate the nerves for therapeutic purposes.

You can usually get this done at a Chiropractor, Naturopath or buy a machine for at home. One of the positive sides to a tens machine is they are generally low cost and easy to use.

Why Can’t I Get Better? Solving the Mystery of Lyme and Chronic Disease

You may not know that you have Lyme. It can mimic every disease process including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, autoimmune conditions like MS, psychiatric conditions like depression and anxiety, and cause significant memory and concentration problems, mimicking early dementia. It is called the “Great Imitator,” and inaccurate testing-combined with a fierce, ongoing debate that questions chronic infection-makes it difficult for sufferers to find effective care.
