Moonface Bear

lyme deaths

Moonface Bear

was a Golden Hill Paugussett Indian. He led a faction of that Connecticut tribe in an armed standoff with state officials in 1993, becoming for a time a symbol of American Indian defiance of authority.

Bear died on May 21, 1996 in a hospital in Norwich. The cause was leukemia, aggravated by Lyme disease, said his brother Quiet Hawk, the Paugussett’s council chief.
