Nadine Grace Bateman, 87, of Grinnell died March 29, 2015, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A graveside service and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.

Nadine was born November 4, 1927, in Springville, Iowa the daughter of Steven Loid and Grace Ramona Luebbs Carver. She was raised in Springville and after the death of her parents when she was only 15, she moved to Portland, Oregon and later New York City. She returned to Iowa in the mid 1950’s and to Grinnell in 1974. Later in life she was very proud to be a graduate of Newton High School.
On August 7, 1996, she was united in marriage with Eugene Bateman, in Benson, Arizona. The couple lived in Benson and Del Rio, Texas prior to returning to Grinnell. Eugene passed away in 2008.
Nadine was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Grinnell. She was a strong advocate for Lyme disease and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. She enjoyed renovating and remodeling old homes, baking, gardening and dancing.
Survivors include two children, Mary (Dale) Lamb and John (Lisa Dowd) Robinson, all of Grinnell; one brother, Earl (Barb) Carver of Illinois; one sister, Rusti (Steven) Lyman of Washington state; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene; one daughter, Grace Anderson; a son in infancy, Billy Bateman; and two brothers, Edmond and Robert Carver.
