Shannon Curtis-Bell and Brian Rapier

Each day of May for Lyme Awareness Month in 2015, would like to recognize someone in the Lyme community that has done something to try to help the Lyme community. There are several “unsung heroes” in our community and we would  like to just offer them a little recognition and make sure that their achievements and efforts don’t go  unnoticed.

Today we would like to thank Brian Rapier and Shannon Curtis-Bell for all they are doing for Lyme patients.

Lyme Aide was created to help raise awareness and support a recipient each year who suffer from Lyme Disease.

We asked Shannon and Brian if this will be annual event and what made her get involved in helping Lyme patients.

Shannon Curtis-Bell

“Yes this will be an annual event….and after learning about Erica I wanted to do something that wasn’t out there to help raise awareness and be able to bring our biking community together to help raise money for a new reciepent each year to help pay for all the medical bills that aren’t covered or bills that one cannot afford due to not being able to work because they are so sick.”

Brian Rapier

“It was Shannon’s idea/dream to do something to support her cousin. When Shannon showed me the multiple videos of Erica’s ER visits, I was shocked at how she was received. So it was decided we would attempt to put this event on in a matter of months. Once we saw the support of our friends were going to give we knew we would be successful. Annual event. ..the night before we were talking and I said to Shannon, I think we just committed to something for the rest of our lives! She said yes we did! Sometimes we need to use our voice to stand up for those who can’t. Life is about moments and this was easily one of our finest!”

And this is what they “threw” together for Erica.

By the way… Erica could still use some healing energy and prayers sent her way, please don’t be afraid to leave some prayers or comments for her in the comment section below.

A note from Lisa Hilton: This is what me need more of in our community. Friends and family members stepping up to help their loved ones who are suffering from Lyme disease. It is so hard to help yourself when you are this sick. And that is why I wanted to do a tribute to Shannon and Brian.

Another Note from Lisa Hilton: After Brian and Shannon did the Bike Run for Erica, they asked her and her mom  Char who they should pick for the coming year to do a bike run for. They nominated me. I am really humbled by this. I almost turned it down. I feel like there are so many people out there with Lyme disease that need benefits, that need someone to help them. But after a phone call with Brian and Shannon, and them saying this is not only to help me, but to help awareness, I agreed to it. Some of the money I will put back into the community and into the foundations I have. But mostly will use on trying to heal. I really appreciate the efforts I know they are putting into this as I write this. So I thought if I didn’t bring up my benefit they are planning, they  might be a little mad, lol…

If you are interested in the details they are here.

  2. This is amazing what you 2 do.. I can’t wait for the international Lyme disease awareness bike run. This is going to be big. God bless you both

  3. I couldn’t be more thrilled to join in on this ride. Thanks Shannon and Brian for such a brilliant idea. My husband works for Harley and my dream would be to see this happen every year across all dealerships. Harley supports MD and Breast Cancer. I think our nation’s leading epidemic “Lyme Disease” would be of interest to riders. Look forward to meeting you and thank you for thinking about our Lyme Leader Lisa.
